november TWENTY EIGHT

It's Thanksgiving break and I'm in the big CO. Hope everyone got real fat yesterday and enjoyed the football game today. Go Huskers. Thanks for the memories, Frankie. If I can find some time, I'll put some pictures up tomorrow night maybe...or possibly tonight if we get home early enough. Otherwise, peace out and have a great weekend!

november TWENTY FOUR

Today was eventful in the fact that Frank Solich fought back and I had an Economics test this morning. After that, it was fly throught the day, putting off tomorrow's homework until the last possible second. Lunch at the stadium. Ping Pong. Taco dinner. All while thinking about Thanksgiving. And how I have nothing packed. No homework planned. Projects due. Time passing. AAAH! It's OK, though because it's almost break. I have poli-sci at 11. Then to the union to buy matte board to finish my latest project (redesign of the Ramen package) then I'll be free to pack and plan for the long weekend. I still don't know how I'm getting home, whether it's Abbey early, or Adam late. I guess that just depends on how much stuff I can get packed and how much time it takes to get the room ready for bug spraying. Don't fret people, they spray ALL the rooms over break!

I'm pretty sure I forgot to mention that there was a skunk walking around campus on Friday of last week. Just right in the middle of campus.

Abbey spilled ramen all over our floor tonight. An ENTIRE BOWL. In the process she got what looks to be a second-degree burn on her arm, too. OUCH. ( Maybe it IS good that they're spraying the room, now that I think about it...Have you ever tried to get wet noodles out of shag carpet? Impossible. No doubt. )

Thanksgiving is only 5 days long. Why am I worried about it so much? I guess I just feel unprepared. I haven't even thought about it. That's the problem with college. I'm doing other things and always forget to plan ahead for "outside of campus" events like family gatherings. I just wish there was a better way to balance the outside with the inside...

november TWENTY TWO

Busy day of moving. I about cut my finger off on Mamo's couch, trying to get it out the door of her apartment. I'm gashed. I got to see the second half of the basketball season opener, too. Which was well worth it, I'd like to add. Breck was there and he's always a treat at b-ball games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games. Yelling at the opposing players and such. And Fairleigh Dickenson had no shortage of people to make fun of. There was the 6'11" white guy with dreadlocks halfway down his back and a white headband. Then there was Michael Finley, Jr. And Brian Conklin's twin brother. And Old Man River. And the coach with a corsage on. (It was from his prom date.) The coaches all wore suits, though. Classy moves. And that's the OTHER TEAM! Nebraska had Conklin shooting lights out. ( Well about as "lights-out" as you can get with 3-8 from the floor... ) Turek had a good game and Drevo is just beautiful as always, despite the repulsive back-ne. Breck decided that's his way of keeping the defenders off. Tonight also saw the return of the "slashing" quickness of Big Nate and M-Rich. Don't forget the butter smooth moves of Tony Wilbrand either.

SNOW is falling outside. We ran out and threw the first snowballs of the season about 230 (Sunday morning). I need to go skiing. Watch for snow pictures when I get up in the morning and get around too it.

Am I wrong for thinking that at certain times, in certain lights, both Pink and Kelly Osborne are sort of attractive? Will I receive hate mail for saying this? How about that I don't mind the new Britney Spears song? Or the whole CD, for that matter...

If I see another commercial on late night television for 1-800-810-GIRL, I think I'm going to shoot someone. Or go to bed...Hmm...

Music going through my head right now...Blink 182 "Feelin This" Jay-Z "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" Clipse "Let's Talk About It"

I watched 3 episodes of the Anna Nicole Smith show tonight, followed by Album Launch Blink 182 then a show about John Mayer, then a couple music videos, now I'm going to fall asleep to the end of the Washington-Wazzu game from yesterday afternoon. Oh, the Apple Cup floweth over for the Huskies...again. This is a really good game.

Someone please call me sometime during the afternoon on Sunday, wake me up, and remind me to read my Econ book for a while please. Thanks.

I NEED T I V O.

Crap. No free snacks on Dad tonight. Then I watched a CNN show about JFK. How is it even possible that there are people out there that can dispute cold hard evidence and say Oswald acted alone?! Look at the facts, people. It's a conspiracy. Oh, and I saw the Zapruder film in its entirety for the first time. Wow. It's sicker than I thought. Then Futurama and Family Guy were on and that brought a nice close to the evening. A little more upbeat.

Earlier today, IT WAS 75 DEGREES. It's November 20th. Not June. Unbelievable. I tagged along with Abbey when she went to get her hair cut. Well, actually, I went to Best Buy. Dinner at Abel was Thanksgiving. Woo. I think I am going to put some more pictures of people up tomorrow, so check that. Maybe the I Hate List, too, if I get time....Bye for the night. AND I almost forgot...Slater quit Fraternity Life.

november NINETEEN

The meteor shower was last night. Abbey and I went out to the country to see a bunch of pebbles flying across the sky. Meteor showers are always disappointing, but we DID see a couple really good ones. And it was fun because Abbey was scared of wild animals attacking her the whole time. And the cows were all being loud. That provided some extra entertainment.

Have I mentioned how much I love to steal music? This MyTunes thing is perhaps the best program ever. I have almost any song I can ever want. Tonight, I got the new Outkast CDs from "paul c in 353L." Wherever THAT is. It's quite a fun time. P.S. The new Jay-Z "Black Album" is really, really good. Buy it. Or steal. Whichever you prefer.

I'm ready for Thanksgiving. I am very tired of school. I just decided tonight. Nothing happened today at all. BLAH! And I'm still bitter about baseball. Oh, I just thought of something else that made today suck. poker" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: poker';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">poker" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: poker" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: poker';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">poker';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">poker" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: poker';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">Poker tournament at Neihardt. Yeah, it was pathetic that I even set foot in that nerd haven (sorry, Megan) in the first place, but it was Texas Hold 'Em for 3 bucks. Couldn't pass that up. So I'm playing OK and we're getting down to the end of the two hours we were allowed to play. I decide to go all in with a full house -- three 8s and two Jacks...AND I LOSE! Two other people ALSO HAD A FULL HOUSE...BOTH OF them had Full House as well...three Jacks and two 8s. I almost flipped the table over. I was so mad. I hate gambling" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: gambling';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">gambling" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: gambling" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: gambling';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">gambling';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">gambling" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: gambling';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">gambling.

november SEVENTEEN

Today was two more hours of ping pong and a tornado warning. Today was ham for dinner and Walmart at midnight. Today was Economics and History. Today was buying a Rolling Stone and making a book cover. Today was hearing about the new 20" iMacs and mourning the apparent loss of Wise Guys pizza. Today is yesterday tomorrow.

november SIXTEEN

Nebraska looked really bad in the second half. Holiday Bowl here we come. Colorado better watch out...Jeez, the Huskers are going to demolish them next week. Other than that, the weekend is pretty low key. Did some laundry on a quick trip home. Got a picture of Chris in the chicken suit...I'll put that up later. More to come...once I remember something else that has happened in the last couple days. Go watch the Chiefs. And root for the Bengals.

november TWELVE

GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL! I would like to officially use this page as the launch pad for my soccer career. In our intramural indoor playoff game, I scored my first goal of the season. " So what? It's one goal, big deal. " you say... I laugh in your face. Because every superstar has to start somewhere! Unfotunately, the career will have to wait, as we were ultimately defeated 3-1 by a team that hadn't won a game yet. What a way to go out! It may have been due to the fact, though, that we only had 3 field players and the goalie. We were two men down. It was an early game and some other people had classes. So we fought hard. And got tired. Real tired. So, in honor of that, I went and lifted weights afterwards for about 45 minutes. And got even more tired! Then I took a nap. Then I woke up and talked to lovely Abbey who spent the evening at the John Mayer concert in Omaha. It is her third time seeing the guy. Can someone besides me please tell her that she may need to get help? :-) Then I ate a ramen. Beef. And that brings me to the present...Next I will drink a Mountain Dew, then shower, then study for my quiz tomorrow. Then sleep. Tomorrow...HMMM...I think I'm going to splurge. Juice Stop and Kill Bill. PS...If anyone in Omaha is reading this at the moment, check the newspaper and see if American Splendor is playing anywhere. It WAS at the Ross, but now they're not showing it anymore. I need to see that, too.

Things learned while watching Nebraska beat up on the Nanooks:

1. At first, it looked like the return of Barryball. BORRRING! Everyone looks like they are at the same level as last year. Nothing spectacular from anyone returning. Still no credible big man. Still nothing in the medium range jumpshot department, either. No one is incredibly stronger, though Drevo is about 25 pounds lighter. At this point, prognosis bad.

2. We do have two new guards who seem to be the missing pieces that we needed last year. Marcus Neal and Charles Richardson are small and quick and they can pass and they like to run. FINALLY! Where have you been all my life boys? That is EXACTLY what we needed last year. New prognosis: rosy.

3. Jake Muhleisen is a disappointment. He isn't the same. Without running point, he's just another average guard, shoots well, but isn't flashy enough to demand that extra defender. He's gonna score 7 a game and just be forgotten. That's really too bad, because he goes from being The Man to just another guard. Obviously, we have to give him more time. One game isn't the end, but I can just see him pitching in more as a experienced leader guy rather than go-to, cruch-time guy.

4. Nate Johnson's kid is awesome. I hope he comes to all the games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games.

5. The new HUSKER CHAMPIONSHIP DRIVE is not. If they show that video again at the game on Saturday, I'm going to kill myself. Obviously, this is a big project. New pavillion, weight room, practice fields, locker room, 5000 extra seats and a brand new scoreboard is the biggest thing to come out of the football program in a long time, but I swear the introduction video is going to turn people away. It was the most repulsively boring thing I have ever seen in my entire life. 10 minutes of Steve Pedersen talking?! Are you kidding me. I think Frank Solich is more exciting than this. The NEBRASKA OFFENSE is better than this. It's THAT BAD. I officially jumped off the bandwagon. Thanks for putting faith back with the fans, Steve, but how in the world are the OTHER TEAMS supposed to move forward when all they get is a pat on the back, while you break the bank to impress football recruits. I bet you could make the basketball team respectable for a lot less than $50 freakin' million dollars. Why is it only about football? Texas has two sports. So does Oklahoma. Michigan, Florida, LSU...the list goes on of schools that actually care about something besides football. Tradition, yes. Go with what works, yes. But can we PLEASE join the rest of the world sometime and become a major SPORTS university, not just Football U.? There needs to be something to cheer for around here besides football. I'm tired of the apathy. Spending money doesn't cure that. They call it progress. I call it more of the same. And the same is showing some cracks in the foundation.

6. The new courtside seats are cool. They look comfortable. They should be for $125 a game.

7. Male cheerleaders MUST be outlawed. There has never been a gayer bunch of guys than the Nebraska cheer squad. Just the sight of these idiots makes me cringe. I hate them.

8. Speaking of annoyances, the band NEEDS to play something besides the fight song. This is the second year in a row that they play that song at EVERY SINGLE TIMEOUT AND COMMERICAL BREAK. There is just no excuse for that. It's unbelievable. It's almost like I'd rather not have them there.

9. Somebody please introduce the dance team to a song with a damn beat. If I see them "dancing" to another remix of a song by a white girl EVER AGAIN, I'm leaving the game.

10. The crowd was larger than expected, but inexcusably quiet. They showed people sleeping on the HuskerVision screen. Go home and stay there. Don't sleep at a game, jackass.

11. Jim Rose was a good replacement at the announcer position.

12. Why don't they give away any prizes at the first few games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">games? Big screen, flat panel monitor, DVD burner, laptop...all this stuff is great, but why wait 'til January?

OK, that's good for now. People, this was only the first game. And I'm HOOKED. I want football season to get over. Maybe then the rest of this state will remember that there is more to life than football. But it's not likely.

The weekend in Kansas was a good time. Except for the KU fans. Overall, very disappointing for a Big 12 opponent. Obviously, they have a long way to go before they can make Colorado fans look good, but it was a definite negative mark for Lawrence in general. They were stuck up and rude. And drunk to boot. I mean, sure there is alcohol in the seats in Lincoln, but it's some drunk frat guy with a flask, not a freakin' 12 pack in his fleece. Young and old, everyone had alcohol and it was ridiculous and is inexcusable for a university event. I don't care what you say. The drinking was out of control and immature. Plus there was no one doing anything about it, i.e. cops... We faced a fair amount of obscenies and name-calling, but that was expected. It's Kansas. 5 wins in Lawrence = a good season. I'm just looking for a little more class from a stadium full of fans. And your little HuskerVision copy at the beginning of the game? WEAK. Granted, the capitol sower clotheslining the opponents' helmet isn't great, but a plane bombing our helmet? It's cliche and too Monday Night Football. Originality please. Props, though, for the Wild West-themed beginning. Other thoughts -- 1. Dude, it's only called "waving the wheat" in Kansas, and NO WE DIDN'T STEAL THAT. Their fans acted like they had the trademark on the waving arms after touchdown celebration. YEAH, LIKE ANY FOOTBALL TRADITION HAS EVER STARTED AT A KANSAS GAME. 2. Our 20,000 fans were louder than your 40,000. ( by the way...KU fan total at end of game...167, the ones that had beers left and the ones born in Nebraska ) 3. KU running back is good. Too bad they passed 50 times. 4. Good work KU fans...I didn't hear one thing about how we would be repaid on the basketball court. Thank you for that. I didn't want to have to bring up EA SPORTS. 5. Don't even get me started about the SLASHED TIRES, either. That's just ghetto, folks, come on now. OK...........

Despite all that bad, the weekend in general was a positive experience. We did meet a FEW cool fans at the game. The ones that didn't care that we beat the Jayhawks, but just made us promise to kill K-STATE. I'm interested to see what THAT game would be like...KU-KSTATE...Can we say riot police? On a similar note, our plans for the CU-NU game on the 29th are yet undecided...If we go, I'm packin' heat. No, not the hand warmers. HEAT. I HATE COLORADO. Almost as much as Nick Collison...OK, old news. Sorry. Other positive things from this weekend. Staying with Mike and his friends was fun. They're good guys. Got to see Chris and my parents. Even if it was a short stay for them. Their hotel was so disgusting ( think stains all over and cigarette burns and closet doors that just fall off ) that they didn't stay and went back home early. That sucked. Anyway, thank you Lawrence. Fun campus. The hospitality left something to be desired, though, you drunks.

Tonight back in L-Town -- BLUE OCTOBER CONCERT. Puts a nice cap on the weekend. Ned came down and him and Megan and I went to dinner then the show.

And now we're having a fire alarm.....CURSES! It's 1:48 am.

november SIX

Here's how my day went. Poli Sci test was ALL ESSAY. How fun. One point from an A on a geography test. One point. Pizza for lunch. CHIPOTLE FOR DINNER! The Matrix Revolutions for dessert. AND IT WAS THE WORST DESSERT IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. As of this moment, the movie is offically alone at the top of the list of Worst Movies of All Time. Really, people, it was quite ridiculous how bad of a movie it was. Of course you have to go see it, so I won't ruin anything, but I have probably never witnessed a bigger piece of crap. I'm lucky a wonderful weekend in Kansas awaits or I would have killed myself going over and over in my head about how bad it was. Let's have a moment of silence for the future movie careers of the Wachowski brothers after the critics get a hold of this one. It will make Gigli look like an Oscar contender. ( I could have said "Oscar winner," but then we would just be kidding ourselves. )

november FIVE

Napster is back. Yeah, yeah, you already knew that. But the website is quite awesome. I think I'll make a link to it...Super awesome and amazing discovery of the night...I can now save Flash files...You just don't understand how awesome that makes my life.

november FOUR

Ok, can the world jump off of Kellen Winslow's back for a second? ESPN Magazine, that means you. He's not that great. No tight end ever is. So what if he is better than his dad who was a good NFL player. He's still a receiver. A tight end = 10 catches per year. So what?

Don't think I did so hot on my Geography test today. Oh well. I'll do better on the next one. Might get my history test grade back tomorrow. Hopefully that will cheer me up. Econ went swell, too. Extra credit paper might give me an A+. Woo. Registered for classes this afternoon. 'Film Directors' here I come. That should be very cool. Registration actually went well, believe it or not. Someone must have heard me screaming last spring when all the classes I wanted were filled up. They got the idea. Another episode like that and I might have needed a new monitor ( as mine would have gone crashing to the ground, 11 floors below ).

NEBRASKETBALL IN 6 DAYS, PEOPLE. YOU CAN'T ACCURATELY MEASURE MY EXCITEMENT. I'm tired of football anyway.......

.....Except for the Kansas trip this weekend. I get to see cool people on a cool campus. Plus, my mom told me she would take me shopping. Woo! Oh yeah, Nebraska plays too. And they better win. Frank Solich beware.

Has anyone seen 'Cold Pizza' on ESPN in the mornings? I haven't either. I wonder what that says about the show's ratings.

Two random iTunes songs before dinner. POISON-"Every Rose has Its Thorn"; and EELS-"Manchild." ( Um, OK. )

november ONE

Nebraska is pathetic. OK, we were #9 in the country. We had one loss. Big Deal. Let's list the things that make us one of the most overrated teams in the country. 1. No team speed. 2. No good running backs. 3. Too many mistakes from the quarterback. 4. Poor offensive coaching and play calling. Barney Cotton is WORSE than Solich was as the offensive coordingator. 5. Poor team organization. 6. Too many penalties. 7. No clutch players. 8. No threatening players. Opposing defenses are NEVER TESTED, EVER. 9. Not enough effort. 10. No REAL captains. Where's the yelling on the sidelines? 11. Players show up one week, then disappear the next. ( That's you Demarrio and Ross Pilkington. ) It's getting bad. I know it's only our second loss and they were both to good teams, but there seem to be so many problems with this team on losing weeks. And that never happened before. There was never a question on whether we were good or not. If we lost a game, it was just a bad night. Now it's gotten to the point where we seem to be about in the middle. Wins aren't always expected because the players give the fans nothing to build off. Touchdown pass from Lord to Herrian in the 3rd quarter. So what? Texas gets the ball and could have run BACKWARDS over our defense in 8 plays for a touchdown. There is no momentum. There is no urgency. No fire. And I hate losing. And I don't like Frank Solich or the decisions he makes and the direction this program is going.

Look at Oklahoma. Nebraska looks like a high school team compared to them. Bob Stoops ( love him or hate him ) is an amazing coach. And he does the things the Nebraska fans are all thinking Solich should do. How about next week, instead of watching Kansas game film, we watch the tape of OU-OSU from today. Stoops knows how to go for the throat. He throws long passes after turnovers. Why other teams don't do this has always escaped me. Go for the throat. ( Kansas, that means you. Beat us. I dare you. ) Solich would be fired BEFORE THE K-STATE game if he loses to KU. I wish it would happen. Next week, watch Oklahoma, they'll amaze you.
